Rainy season brings a sense of nostalgia with the breeze in the face and the sound of rain falling on your window. However, the rainy season is not an exciting season for individuals diagnosed with the condition of IBS.

In this video, Dr Vatsyayan at Sanjivani Ayurvedshala explains the complications individuals with IBS may experience during the rainy season. The rate of irritable bowel syndrome cases increases during rainy seasons, which is the result of eating food from outside, which gets spoiled in the rainy season after staying out for too long. It is essential to make changes in your diet according to the rainy season. The chances of being prone to the risk of infections are higher among people who eat non-vegetarian food. Therefore, it is ideal to be strict with your diet during the rainy season and eat healthy food on time.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a disorder that many people suffer from. In this video, our expert, Dr. R. Vatsyayan, explains IBS, its causes, symptoms, and the treatment options available.

He explains that IBS is a common problem, and physicians and doctors encounter IBS cases on a daily basis. He explains that it is a group of symptoms that cause pain. IBS affects the proper and smooth functioning of the bowel and intestine. Its common symptoms include crampy abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea.

In Ayurveda, IBS is defined under Grahani Dosha, which is related to malfunctioning of the small and large intestines. Dr Vatsyayan explains that although a number of factors are responsible for causing IBS, its exact cause is not known yet. According to some researchers, people with IBS have a sensitive colon, which causes it to react to some food stress and more.

Because of altered motility of the intestine, muscle contractions, weakened immune system, and disturbed nervous system, intestinal content may move faster or slower. This results in excess fluid in stools due to a lack of nutrient absorption or constipation due to sluggish propulsion and more absorption of liquid content. Sometimes, both these conditions can occur alternatively.

In Ayurveda, IBS is said to be a sequela to Mandagna or a weakening of the digestive fire. Ayurvedic treatments for IBS include herbal remedies, herbal oil and massage therapies, dietary changes and practising yoga for better health and well-being.
